Religious Education

Here at Wallsend Jubilee Primary School, the aim of our Religious Education curriculum is to help children to acquire and develop knowledge and understanding of Christianity, other principal religions and world views that are represented in Great Britain. The UK has a rich heritage of culture and diversity. Therefore, in accordance with The DfE's Promoting British Values; we encourage or children to regard people of all faiths, race and cultures with respect and tolerance. RE makes a unique contribution to the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of our children and supports wider community cohesion.

Religion and beliefs inform our values and are reflected in what we say and how we behave. Religious Education provokes challenging questions about the ultimate meaning and purpose of life, beliefs about God, the self and the nature of reality, issues of right and wrong, and what it means to be human. It can develop children's knowledge and understanding of Christianity, of other principal religions, traditions and worldviews that offer answers to questions such as these. RE makes important contributions to other parts of the school curriculum such as citizenship, personal, social, health and economic education (PSHE education), helping children become successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens. It gives our children the knowledge, skills and understanding to discern and value truth and goodness, strengthening their capacity for making moral judgements and for evaluating different types of commitment to make positive and healthy choices.
