Times Tables and Multiplication Facts

Each Year group in school has a different focus when it comes to learning times tables and multiplication facts - it is important that the children stick to the facts they need to learn for their year group and become as familiar as they can with the knowledge they need.

Year 1 - the focus is on counting to and across 100, both forwards and backwards and the children will also count in multiples of 2, 5 and 10

Year 2 - All knowledge from Year 1 and know and use multiplication and division facts for the 2, 5 and 10 multiplication tables, including recognising odd and even numbers.

Year 3 - All facts from Year 1 and Year 2 and know and use multiplication and division facts for the 3, 4 and 8 multiplication tables.

Year 4 - All facts from Year 1 to Year 3 and know multiplication and division facts for multiplication tables up to 12 × 12 - new tables include 6x, 7x, 9x, 11x, 12x

Year 5 - All facts from Year 1 to Year 4 and identify multiples and factors, including finding all factor pairs of a number, and common factors of two numbers.  Know and use the vocabulary of prime numbers, prime factors and composite (non-prime) numbers. Know prime numbers up to 19 and be able to work out if a number up to 100 is prime or not.

Year 6 - All facts from Year 1 to Year 5 and identify common factors, common multiples and prime numbers.
