Transition into year 2
Wider re-opening after the summer holiday
The clear message from Government is that all pupils will return to school in September and we are optimistic that we will be able to make preparations on this basis. The new guidance requires many measures to be worked through and put into place but it has less constraints on numbers and social distancing and gives schools much more flexibility in order to make things work in each unique school environment.
Our school will be using year group/mixed class bubbles, which will allow children to socialise with their peers, at lunchtimes for outdoor learning and playtimes. This will also allow subject specialist teaching and the meeting of individual pupils needs.
To reduce mixing and transition, your child will have a staggered start and end to the day with a set time that must be kept too. We are aware that some flexibility will be required for parents of more than one child. Playtimes and lunchtimes will be staggered and yards designated to minimal year groups.
Control measures which promote good hand and respiratory hygiene will remain essential.
Enhanced cleaning will be implemented for frequently touched surfaces and toilet areas.
Staff and parents/carers will be expected to inform school immediately if they/their child becomes poorly with COVID 19 symptoms.
We are planning to revert to a hot school meal option though the choice and arrangements (timings, where pupils will eat their lunch etc.) will need to be different to the norm. We plan to stagger lunches and use a mixture of the dining hall and classrooms to keep year group bubbles separate. EYFS and Key Stage 1 will eat their dinner in the dinner hall and Key stage two in their classrooms. Please follow this link to the North Tyneside Council School Meal Website for further information about the provision of school meals:
The school will develop plans to enhance home learning (in the event of localised lockdowns such as the one in Leicester or partial closure in the event of confirmed cases within the school) or for any children who are advised by their doctor/specialist to continue shielding.
We will also develop catch up programmes for individual pupils, groups or classes that may need this.
We have posted a meet the teacher document for you to share with your child and as an introduction to the teacher. We will also shortly post a power point to explain the expectations for the year group your child is moving into and a booklet to explain what to expect when your child returns. This will inform you of your child’s arrival and departure time and place. Over the next week teachers will email you to open lines of communication. Please email your child’s new teacher if you have further questions.
Please be mindful that this reopening continues to be subject to DFE and government guidance.
Please visit the year group transition page on the website as all correspondence both before and during the school holidays will be made through here.
Thank you for your support, patience, consideration and understanding.
